One contract worker died of ashyxiation and three others were hospitalised after they inhaled toxic gas while cleaning a water tank at an Ethanol factory at the Northern Chennai suburb of Gummudipoondi on Tuesday.
Police said the incident occurred at the factory located at Thervoy Kandigai near Gummudipoondi where the one of contract workers was cleaning the water tank.

Soon the migrant worker from Odisha, identified as Dhananjay Mali, fell unconscious after inhaling a poisonous gas. As there was no response, three co-workers

who entered the tank to rescue him also lost consciousness.
Fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and rescued all the four workers using safety equipment and rushed to hospital, where Dhananjay Mali was declared brought dead.
The three other workers were admitted to the Tiruvallur Government Hospital. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
